Week 2 of the 2019-20 NBA season goes on with eight games on the first day of November. Over the last ten days, we saw some surprising results including the Golden State Warriors’ poor start. The reigning vice-champions lost three of their first four games, each one by 11 or more points.
What is more important, the Warriors lost Stephen Curry in a 121-110 loss to the Phoenix Suns. Curry broke his hand and it’s still unknown for how long he will stay sidelined. If surgery is necessary, Curry could miss the next two months, at least.
Steph joined his splash brother, Klay Thompson, who will probably miss the entire season due to a torn ACL. Without their two best players, the Warriors could be done for the season. Furthermore, Draymond Green is struggling with minor injuries, so the Dubs could be quite shorthanded in the near future.
One thing is sure, D’Angelo Russell will be the first scoring option for the Warriors. He has struggled mightily over the first four appearances as a Warriors, so this is a perfect opportunity for Russell to prove his worth.

D’Angelo is averaging 16.3 points per game while making only 39.0% of his field goals and 33.3% of his 3-pointers. He’s been flat-out terrible on the defensive end, but I would like to focus on his offensive game now that Curry is out.
Last year, Russell became an All-Star in Brooklyn. He led the Nets to the postseason, tallying 21.1 points and 7.0 assists per game while hitting 43.4% of his field goals and 36.9% of his triples. Russell was a go-to-guy down the stretch, and he enjoyed his spot in the Nets’ system.
Now, D’Angelo will have a chance to become a go-to-guy for the Warriors until Curry returns from his broken hand. We should see him playing more minutes and taking way more shots. Russell was averaging 18.7 field-goal attempts last season. Over four games with the Dubs, he’s averaging 14.8.
Of course, Russell will have to make his shots, but he shouldn’t be afraid of this opportunity. The 23-year-old combo guards should step up and lead this young Warriors team. There will be woes, especially on the defensive end, but Russell will be a key player for the Dubs’ offense.
Keep your eyes on D’Angelo in the next two months. I will take him in the over on the points total against the Spurs tonight. I will back him on most of the nights until Curry comes back.
The Spurs are coming off a 103-97 loss at the Clippers last night. There could be some tired legs among the Spurs. Their defense is not an elite one. The Spurs allowed 111 points to the Knicks and 122 to the Wizards.
Elsewhere, the first day of November brings a few interesting matchups including Houston at Brooklyn and LA Lakers at Dallas. Interestingly, both Houston and Brooklyn are 0-4 ATS on the season. The line on the totals has been set at 240.5 points. This should be a wild one, so I will stay away.
I would also pass on the Lakers. Those games are a joy to watch but tough to predict the outcome. Detroit at Chicago is another tricky matchup, considering the Pistons’ injury problems.
And, what can I say about the Sacramento Kings? They are 0-5 SU and ATS on the season, hosting the 4-1 Utah Jazz as 5.5-point underdogs. I’ve got burned on the Kings against the Hornets, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they somehow beat the Jazz.
The Bucks over the Magic is our betting pick of the day, and you can check it out among the other major sports’ events. The Celtics host the Knicks as 10.5-point favorites which could be a nice matchup for the bettors who prefer teasers.
Finally, the Pacers are 7.5-point home favorites against the Cavaliers who won two of their first four contests. The Pacers are 1-3 on the season, and I think they will beat the Cavs at home. They could struggle to cover, so I suggest you take the alternative spread or go with a teaser.
