  • Kansas City Royals vs. Minnesota Twins

The Royals take on the Twins in the opening clash of a four-game series at Target Field in Minneapolis. While the Royals have been eliminated for the playoff race, the Twins are topping the AL Central five games ahead of Cleveland.

Minnesota needs to finish the season on a high note and clinch the divisional title. The Twins are 10-3 in their last 13 meetings with the Royals and 11-2 in the previous 13 encounters at Target Field. Before Wednesday’s contests, Minnesota was 4-1 in its last five games at home, while Kansas City was 3-6 in its previous nine games overall.

Kyle Gibson should get the ball for the Twins tonight, and he’s 13-7 this season with a 4.76 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP. Gibson is 9-5 in his 21 starts against the Royals, while the Twins are 10-2 in his previous 12 starts against the Royals.

Mike Montgomery will toe the slab for the visitors. He’s 0-4 in the last five starts and 3-9 this season with a 4.70 ERA and a 1.59 WHIP. The Royals are 3-7 in Montgomery’s previous ten outings.

The visitors have nothing to play for here besides the fact it’s the AL Central showdown. Still, the Twins need a few more wins to clinch the divisional title, so I would take them to cover the spread tonight. Five of the Twins’ last seven wins over the Royals came by two or more runs.

  • Minnesota Twins -130 over Kansas City Royals by two or more runs

  • Tennessee Titans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

After an excellent 43-13 win at Cleveland in Week 1, the Titans disappointed their fans last week, losing to Indianapolis 19-17. On the other side, the Jaguars suffered two losses to Kansas City 40-26 and at Houston 13-12.

The Jaguars lost their starting QB Nick Foles in Week 1, so rookie Gardner Minshew took the helm. He tossed for 213 yards and a TD at Houston, but the Jaguars blew their chance, going for a two-point conversion instead of taking a field goal for overtime.

Jacksonville’s season already looks ruined. Nick Foles will be sidelined for at least six weeks, while CB Jalen Ramsey demanded a trade. The two-time Pro Bowl and one-time All-Pro stated he wants to win, and the Jaguars don’t look like a team capable of winning.

Tennessee hopes to bounce back from a tough loss to the Colts. Marcus Mariota threw for just 154 yards and a TD, while the Titans converted only one of their ten 3rd downs. While their defense does a good job, the Titans need more from their offense if they want to make it to the playoffs.

The Titans have won four straight encounters with the Jaguars, covering on all four occasions. Likewise, the Jaguars are 1-4 SU and 1-3-1 ATS in their previous five outings at home. The Jags’ defense will have to step up and lead the team, but I think their offense will struggle against the Titans.

The favorite is 9-2 straight up in the last 11 encounters between Tennessee and Jacksonville. Considering all the facts, I have to go with the Titans at money line odds. This could easily be a tight battle, so I don’t want to bother with a 1.5-point spread.
